Motorcyclist killed in Wednesday night accident

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A 20-year old motorcyclist is dead after a collision with another vehicle late Wednesday night in northwest Lubbock.

Police say the motorcyclist, Clayton Wallace Carey, was heading south on Slide Road just after 10 p.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, Cassandra Marie Knapp, 23, was heading east on the North Loop 289 access road, turning north onto Slide Road.

Police say Knapp entered the intersection on a yellow light as the traffic light for Carey turned green on the north side of the overpass. Carey quickly accelerated through the traffic light. Witnesses told police that Carey ran the red light on the south side of the overpass.

Knapp was in the intersection on the south side of the overpass making the turn when Carey collided with the left side of Knapp's SUV.

Police say Carey removed his helmet and collapsed on the scene. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Knapp was not injured.

Sgt. Robert Hook with the Lubbock Police Department says they are still investigating.
