I was shocked this week to see where a sitting councilman was in the middle of foreclosure proceedings on his home. And he's now using the system to delay the process and keep his home off the auction block.
Here we have an elected official, responsible for millions of tax dollars, who appears to have trouble paying his own bills.
And that's not all. Councilman Victor Hernandez has a long history of being at the center of controversy after controversy. He's been the subject of KCBD investigations revealing politicians not paying their taxes.
And his most recent squabble with city staff cost the city manager her job. As if that weren't enough, he is currently set to face a recall election in November.
This foreclosure news was the last straw for me with Hernandez.
It's time the City of Lubbock said goodbye to him as a politician for good. The only thing he seems to accomplish is stirring up trouble.
He has demanded accountability and has none. He has required leadership and gives none.
For him to have a say in how our tax dollars are spent is absurd. I hope the citizens of District One will expect more out of their city representative.
