Malaria breakthrough

Posted: Updated:

Researchers are calling it a breakthrough in the search for a vaccine to fight malaria.

We haven't seen that deadly illness in this country in more than 60 years, but worldwide, it kills about one million people every year.

Reporting in the journal ‘Science', researchers say they've tested this new vaccine on a small group, but all those who received the complete dose were fully protected when exposed to the virus three weeks later.

Studies continue to learn how long the immunity lasts.
