The 2013 Texas Tech volleyball season officially began Friday evening when 19 Red Raiders reported to campus for a team meal and meeting at the United Spirit Arena.
The first set of practices is slated to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the United Spirit Arena practice gymnasium. Tech will return to the court later in the evening to complete the first two-a-day of training camp.
"It's always nice to have that first day and get everyone situated and on campus," Tech head coach Don Flora said. "Tonight was the first step in our season and tomorrow begins the preparation. We're anxious to get in the gym and get our feet wet. It should be a fun training camp."
Flora returns 12 letterwinners from last season's squad, including four starters in Rachel Brummitt, Breeann David, Mikia Mills and Aubree Piper, giving the third-year head coach his most-experienced squad of his tenure. Tech also welcomes seven newcomers to the program as well.
Tech opens the 2013 season on Aug. 30 with the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Weber State. The Red Raiders will face Seattle and UC Riverside on the first day of the two-day tournament before closing against Grand Canyon and the host Wildcats.
