City Leaders Set to Cut Ties with Buddy Holly Name, for Now
Negotiations have come to a dead end between the widow of Buddy Holly and the city of Lubbock. It involves paying more money in order to use the Buddy Holly name for a music festival.
The city pays her money every year for the right to use the Buddy Holly name at an annual symposium. But, Maria wanted more because the city is planning to add a music festival. If the council votes to drop Buddy Holly's name, the festival will be called the "Lubbock, Texas, Music Festival."
During Thursday's meeting, the Lubbock City Council voted unanimously in favor of ending the contract with Maria Elena Holly.
