AU Tigers get in 2-hour practice Monday

Posted: Updated:

The Auburn football team practiced two hours Monday night at the Auburn Athletics practice fields. It was the Tigers' 12th practice of the 2013 preseason.

"We had a solid practice today," Coach Gus Malzahn said after the workout. "We're at the midway point of the preseason. I challenged our team and I'm proud of how they responded."

Malzahn announced that junior Kiehl Frazier switched positions from quarterback to safety, where "he's going to help make our team better. I'm very proud of Kiehl Frazier. He's a winner, a class act, a team-first guy."

In updating the Auburn quarterback race, Malzahn said, "Our two new guys are going to get the majority of the time with the ones," referring to junior college transfer Nick Marshall and true freshman Jeremy Johnson. Sophomore Jonathan Wallace also remains in the quarterback battle.

The Tigers practice twice on Tuesday. Auburn's season opener is Saturday, August 31, at Jordan-Hare Stadium versus Washington State in a 6 p.m. Central kickoff.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
