Lady Raider tennis sets 2013-14 schedule

From Texas Tech Athletics:

The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team announced its 2013-14 schedule today. The schedule features seven fall events and 23 regular season spring matches, including a possible 15 opponents that appeared in the 2013 NCAA Championships.

The Lady Raiders return four letterwinners from last season's squad that finished 20-7 and No. 18 nationally. Texas Tech won a share of its second straight Big 12 title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.

Texas Tech will open the fall season at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 13. The Lady Raiders are also scheduled to compete at the Little Rock Invitational (Sept. 20-22), the ITA Riviera All-American (Sept. 29-Oct. 5) and the Baylor Invitational (Oct. 11-13) before heading to the ITA Texas Regional Championships (Oct. 17-21). Texas Tech will close out the fall season competing at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational (Oct. 24-27) and the New Mexico Fall Invitational (Nov. 1-3).

The Lady Raiders open the spring season with a doubleheader on Jan. 18 against Wyoming and Texas Sate before heading to the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Lincoln, Neb., where Texas Tech will face No. 19 Vanderbilt in the first round and either No. 16 Nebraska or No. 21 Georgia Tech in the second round.

In February, the Lady Raiders travel to No. 51 SMU (Feb. 1) and No. 44 William & Mary (Feb. 4) before returning home to face Arizona (Feb. 14) and Georgia State and New Mexico in a doubleheader on Feb. 16.

The Lady Raiders will compete in the prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Feb. 21-23 in Montgomery Ala. The field is loaded with seven Top 30 teams — No. 11 Alabama, No. 13 Clemson, No. 15 Virginia, No. 18 Texas Tech, No. 22 Rice, No. 25 Auburn, No. 28 Oklahoma State and No. 45 Illinois.

Texas Tech opens Big 12 play in Waco on March 2 when the Lady Raiders battle No. 20 Baylor. The Lady Bears were the only team to defeat Tech in league play last season and shared the Big 12 title with the Lady Raiders.

After a quick trip to California to face No. 37 St. Mary's (March 7), and No. 65 Santa Clara (March 9), Texas Tech returns home to face No. 17 Texas (March 16).

The Lady Raiders then head out on a four-match road trip against Oklahoma (March 21), Oklahoma State (March 23), West Virginia (March 28) and Iowa State (March 30), before closing out the season at home against TCU (Apr. 5), Kansas (Apr. 11) and Kansas State (Apr. 13).
