Family still searching for answers, 5 months after woman found dead in park
Tiffany Groves was found dead in Mackenzie Park five months ago
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
It's been five months since 37-year old Tiffany Groves was found dead in Mackenzie Park and her family is no closer to healing than they were on the day they heard the news.
Groves was found just one week after she went missing, but Lubbock police say they still have no information on her death.
Groves' older sister, Tricia McNelly says the wait has been agonizing. She says she lives with the piecing reality every day that her baby sister is gone.
"There's just something that leaves you empty," McNelly said. "We miss her so much. To just be laid to rest and just to say goodbye and to not know..."
After Groves' body was found, McNelly uprooted her life in Waco and moved to Lubbock with her daughter to care for Groves' two children, 14-year old Jake and 12-year old Brittany.
"If my sister were here, she would make sure that they were taken care of and she would love them as much as I love them. I need to do the same..." McNelly said.
McNelly tells us, although they're trying to cope, closure won't come until they get answers about Groves' death.
"It was like she just disappeared and we're left with no answers to anything. Whether we get those answers ever, I don't know," McNelly said.
Police say they've yet to receive the autopsy results. McNelly worries that authorities are slowly forgetting about her best friend.
"My sister wasn't just a girl that was found in Mackenzie Park, my sister was a beautiful person," McNelly said.
Now, as this family waits for answers, McNelly says all she can do is be there for two children who miss their mother more than anything.
"I want them to deal with this and continue to heal - and know that what would make their mother proud is to go on and have a good life and to be happy and do good in school," McNelly said.
The children's father is now serving time for DWI, so McNelly is having to raise these children on her own. She says she worries about providing for the kids as school begins. If you're interested in helping this struggling family out, you can email email@example.com.
