There is an important reminder from the government advising all baby boomers to get screened for Hepatitis C, a virus that can be dormant for years, and then develop into serious complications, even liver cancer.
The risk factors start with anyone born between 1945 and 1965.
"Anybody that's at high risk, including a history of IV drug use, even once, a history of dirty tattoo needles or tattoos, anyone who's had blood transfusion, either in the 1980's or before, those are all risk factors of getting that infected blood into our blood," says Dr. Timothy Miller, a gastroenterologist.
All it takes is a simple blood test to determine if a person has been infected. You can get that screening from your family doctor.
