Last week our news department brought attention to a big problem in the city, overgrown weeds.
It was so bad, the city codes department had taken over 6,000 complaints.
And it was dangerous, too. The weeds had grown so high, it was impairing the line of sight for some drivers trying to cross intersections.
To their credit, the city took care of that particular area before the report ever hit the air, and now state and city crews have been busy mowing the rest of the right of ways in town.
My compliments to those city and state crews for taking action after our report.
Having said that, mowing these areas was way overdue and should simply happen more often in Lubbock, especially after rainfall. What we saw last week was unsightly, embarrassing, and flat-out dangerous.
