Tylenol introduces new dosage warning labels

Posted: Updated:

Many people think that if one of something is good, then two is better.

That way of thinking can be especially dangerous when it comes to pain relievers, which is why bottles of Tylenol will soon come with a red label urging users to pay attention to warnings that come with dosage.

Tylenol is a brand name for the drug acetaminophen. A bigger dose than recommended can lead to liver damage and may even be fatal.

Overdoses send tens of thousands of people to emergency rooms every year in the U.S.

Acetaminophen products already warn consumers of the risks in small print. But, starting in October, new caps on bottles of extra strength Tylenol will alert consumers that the product contains acetaminophen and will instruct them to read the warning label.

Other Tylenol products will phase in the new caps over the coming months.
