Birthday parties never get old. In fact, some believe the older you get the more special they become.
Lannie Ruth Marlar celebrated her 104th birthday on Saturday with friends, family and loved ones at Emeritus at Elmbrook Estates on 66th Street near Slide Road.
"I feel honored, I mean highly honored to have a birthday party for an elderly lady like me," said Marlar.
Friends and family members from out of state even came to celebrate this very special day with her.
"They will tell you, 'I just adore her,'" said her daughter Novice.
And it didn't go unnoticed.
"See all these sweet people in honor of me," Marlar said.
There were of course birthday presents, cards, and cake. But probably the best part of the day was when Marlar showed everyone she still knows how to have a good time.
After a few dance moves, Marlar took a seat at the piano and began to play Family of God.
"You'll ask her and she'll say, ‘There's music in my soul," Novice said.
"Yeah, that's it! There's music in my soul today all along lives heavenly way," Marlar said while laughing.
So what is the secret to living a life as long as hers? Her daughters say it's quite simple.
"There's a scripture that says a merry heart does good like medicine and a sorrowful spirit dries the bones and mother has a merry heart," said Jo.
Marlar said all she asked for her birthday was to be happy. Judging by her big smile, it's safe to say her birthday wish came true.
