Lubbock police warn residents about 'Grandma Scam' phone calls

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock police are warning residents about a rapidly-growing scam. It's called the "Grandma Scam" and it's happening nationwide.

Scammers pretend to be a grandchild as they call a grandparent to tell them they are in trouble. During the conversation they ask for money.

Most of the scammers operate from other countries, which makes it difficult to recover the money.

If you get a phone call like this, police ask that you call them immediately.
