As you may recall, last year I endorsed Lubbock ISD's decision to close off campus lunches at the high schools.
Well, we're a few weeks into the first year of that, and I can still say they made the right call.
I know it's a daunting task to get thousands of teenagers through a lunch line in a timely manner, and this transition to closed campus lunches, understandably, would take some adjusting and tweaking the first few days.
Change is never easy and when your kids are involved frustrations can run high. But, I want to remind all parents that their students are safer with this change and the lunch hour roads are safer for everyone. This time of year our newsroom stays busy with calls about traffic accidents around high schools in Lubbock and that simply is not the case this year.
I know our school officials appreciate your patience and I know they have your child's best interest in mind.
