Camilla's Scott-Wesley steps up in Mitchell's absence

ATHENS, GA (WALB) -

Georgia wasn't desperate, but a loss to South Carolina would certainly put any national title hopes out of the picture.

In steps Camilla native Justin-Scott Wesley with a career-best game.

It couldn't have come in a bigger spot either.

With Valdosta native Malcolm Mitchell out for the season, many pointed to Scott-Wesley as a guy who would need to pick up the slack left behind.

He did that and more, hauling in three passes for 116 yards, including an 85 yard touchdown that put the game out of reach.

Scott-Wesley, who was named a captain for the game, says he just had to make a play.

"I knew I had to step up. Replacing a guy like Malcolm Mitchell, it ain't easy," says Scott-Wesley. "But you know, just for me to be able to step up and be a guy that my team can depend on, I feel honored that these guys and the coaches put me in the situations that they do."

Scott-Wesley and the Dawgs now get a much-deserved week off before hosting North Texas. That game will be at 12:20, and you can see it right here on WALB.
