A retired Lubbock police officer is behind bars and charged with prostitution.
John Cason, 58, was arrested Tuesday and is currently being held at the Lubbock County Jail.
It all began when Lubbock police received a complaint about a man impersonating a public servant for prostitution.
Cason was the individual in question, so investigators had a tracking device placed on his vehicle on Sept. 4.
The next day, officers observed Cason picking up a prostitute in the 700 block of North Avenue X.
When they took her in for questioning, she told police she had performed sexual acts for Cason, for $25 dollars cash.
Captain Jon Caspell with the Lubbock Police Department released this statement on Tuesday:
"Over the past several days, the Lubbock Police Department conducted an undercover investigation involving a retired LPD officer, John Cason, 58.
This investigation stemmed from a complaint of someone impersonating a public servant for the purposes of prostitution.
An undercover sting operation was conducted, and he was subsequently arrested and booked in the Lubbock County Correctional Facility Tuesday on a warrant for one count of Class B Misdemeanor Prostitution.
The investigation is ongoing at this time."
KCBD NewsChannel 11 spoke with Cason's wife Tuesday evening. However, she said she could not make a comment because she was talking to her lawyer.
Rhonda Green has been Cason's neighbor for ten years. She says she is having a hard time grasping the news.
"I'm shocked because I didn't know it was him until just a few minutes ago…I just found out it was him, John, and I'm still shocked," said Green.
A source tells KCBD NewsChannel 11 that this arrest is part of a larger investigation by the Lubbock Police Department.
