Like many of you, I was shocked this week when I received a breaking news alert from KCBD that United Supermarkets had sold all of their properties to Albertsons.
Now a nationwide supermarket chain is taking over and there are lots of questions, most of which will just have to be answered over time.
But one thing that is clear - Albertsons leadership has big shoes to fill in Lubbock.
For almost a century United has built an expectation of excellent quality and service, and perhaps equally as important, they have relentlessly given back to the community.
United is always looking to fill a need. They provide a constant stream of support to countless local charities. And when the need is urgent, they have become the catalyst for community-wide generosity.
United has truly used their success to promote the welfare of others.
The leadership of Albertsons says those things won't change. Time will certainly tell.
But for now it is appropriate to thank the entire United family. From the corporate office to the grocery sackers, may the culture you've created continue in Lubbock.
