"I'm just really delighted about what I saw today," said Councilman Jim Gilbreath, excited about Lubbock's new slogan, 'The Giant Side of Texas.' "Lubbock doesn't have a bad image, it's just that in some areas it doesn't have an image," he said.

No apologies, no shame, the chamber of commerce says its time to brag, boast, and crow about living in Lubbock. A giant-sized self-esteem revitalization project with $1.2 million in backing and expected to last for five years.

"This is something that we're going to drive home," said Chamber of Commerce Vice-Chair Dan Pope. "When the chamber conducted survey's about the Hub City a lot of people said, 'Well, I live in Lubbock', sort of under their breath," said Pope. To help turn that frown upside down? A barrage of commercials. "The future looks great on the giant side of Texas," said the commercial's announcer. A slogan organizers hope will eventually be spread by the very people who live here. "200,000 people advocating for Lubbock, yeah that's great," smiled Gilbreath.
