Fiestas Patrias celebrates Mexican independence through Sunday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Today is the second day in the three-day long Fiestas Patrias celebration at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Fiestas Patrias marks the 202nd anniversary of Mexican Independence Day. The event will be held in the northwestern lower parking lot at the Civic Center.

Today's celebration opened with a parade down Broadway at 10 a.m. Festival activities include art, music, dancing and amazing Mexican cuisine. Fiestas Patrias kicked off Friday night with a Senorita Pageant, and will last from Saturday, from 10 a.m. to midnight, through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Event: Fiestas Patrias, staged by Fiestas del Llano, Inc.
  • When: Saturday and Sunday.

  • 11 a.m. - Food booths open to the public.
  • 11:30 a.m. - Ribbon cutting ceremony.
  • 12 p.m. - Mariachi Mi Tierra.
  • 1 p.m. - Presentation of parade awards.
  • 2:30 p.m. - Dano.
  • 3:45 p.m. - Los Iguanas.
  • 5 p.m. - Cyclone.
  • 6:15 p.m. - Ballet Folklorico Aztlan.
  • 7:30 p.m. - Epifanio Ochoa y Los Melodicos.
  • 8:30 p.m. - El Grito de Indepencia," by Bishop Placido Rodriguez.
  • 9:45 p.m. - Atrevido.
  • 11 p.m. - Rudy, Tudy & The Heavy Duties.
  • Midnight - Fiestas closes.
