Texas Cotton Association holds annual meeting in Lubbock Thursday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Texas Cotton Association (TCA) hosted their annual Flow/Market Meeting at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center Thursday, Sept. 19.

The 102-year-old organization invited the public to attend and participate in discussion with 250 cotton industry stakeholders that are involved in the movement of cotton. Communication to resolve problematic issues prior to harvest was also on the agenda.

The general session program also included up-to-date estimated quality and yield reports for 2013 crops as well as other topics affecting the marketability of cotton.

Attendees included cotton merchants, warehousemen, steamship representatives, railroad personnel, Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University professors and researchers, representatives from Plain Cotton Cooperative Association, Plains Cotton Growers, Inc., Texas Independent Ginners Association, Texas Cotton Ginners Association, and many others.

The event was estimated to bring more than $27,600 in economic impact to the local economy.

    A Brownfield man has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges after a wrong-way hit-and-run crash were stolen guns were recovered. The hit-and-run crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. on February 22, 2017 near 130th Street and Indiana Ave.

    The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce opened recruitment for their 2nd Young Entrepreneurs Academy 2017-18 class. Y-E-A is a class for middle and high school students to help them start their own, real business or non-profit.
