For the first time in 12 years the Texas Tech baseball program has received a national recruiting ranking from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper who tabbed the Red Raiders 2013 class 27th in the nation, the publication announced Friday.

This year's class was also ranked No. 24 in the country by Perfect Game during the early signing period last November.

The last time Texas Tech was ranked in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's recruiting rankings was in 2001 when the Red Raiders had the nation's No. 16 recruiting class.

Tech's recruiting class of 19 newcomers (10 transfers, nine freshmen) was put together by head coach Tim Tadlock, recruiting coordinator J-Bob Thomas and pitching coach Ray Hayward, along with the on-campus efforts of director of operations Joe Hughes.

The rankings are based on players who enrolled at school each fall. Athletes who initially signed letters of intent with a school but then signed a pro contract after being drafted do not count in the overall evaluation.

Texas Tech is currently in its fall season where the team will practice and scrimmage until the final week of October. The Red Raiders will open their 2014 season in February.
