A program to spread holiday cheer to our servicemen and women began on Monday.
It's the beginning of the American Red Cross 2013 Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
Folks across the country can send holiday cards to members of the United States military overseas.
"The American Red Cross supports our men and women in the service and we want to make sure that during the holidays that they know they are thought of and remembered and that we miss them and think the most of them - so we have our Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. That's where anybody can send a card through Pitney Bowes and the American Red Cross so we can give a little holiday cheer to our service men and women in the armed forces."
From Sept. 30 through Dec. 6, anyone can send a holiday card to our troops by mailing the card to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, Maryland 20791-5456
Cards should be entitled with generic terms such as "Dear Service Member, Family, or Veteran." Groups of cards should be bundled in a single large envelope. Inserts such as monetary gifts, glitter, or care packages will be removed during the screening process if placed in or with the cards. Personal information such as home addresses or e-mail addresses should not be included.
Red Cross workers will deliver the cards to military personnel overseas.
