Mario Ybarra, District 1 Representative on the Lubbock Independent School District Board of Trustees, was recently named to the Mexican American School Board Members Association (MASBA) Board of Directors.
On September 27, the MASBA board unanimously elected Ybarra to fill the remainder of an unfilled term expiring in January of 2015. The board felt this decision would improve communication and planning for the 2013-2014 school year for the organization.
"I am honored and humbled to be elected to the board of directors of the Mexican American School Board Association. I want to continue to serve the students of Texas, to advocate for quality public education for all students, and to support access to high quality instruction so that all students can be successful," Ybarra said.
Joe Munoz, MASBA Executive Director said, "Congratulations, Mario! With your help and experience, MASBA is looking forward to very successful year.
MASBA is a professional state-wide organization of elected school board officials dedicated to improving the education of Mexican American/Latino children in Texas public schools. MASBA worked vigorously with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) in 2007 and 2008 to make "Mariachi" a recognized event at the high school level.
