Saturday morning the streets of Downtown Lubbock will be filled with pink - people sporting that color to bring awareness to the treatment and prevention of breast cancer.
In case you haven't heard, it's called "Race for the Cure." It's an annual fundraiser that is vital to helping save lives. They take walk-ups, the Race starts at 9:30 a.m., and you can register as early as 6:30 a.m.
You can get involved and find more information here: http://www.komenlubbock.org/komen-race-for-the-cure/
But also consider this:
Even if you are not participating Saturday, you can still help the cause. The single most effective way to catch breast cancer in the early stages is a mammogram. and only about 40% of women 40 and older receive them regularly.
If you have a loved one who is not receiving regular mammograms, ask them about it. And if you know you should be getting them, please do it for your family.
You never know who's life you could be saving by simply asking the question.
