Lubbock is one step closer to having more police officers. On Tuesday, the city council unanimously approved allowing the police department to hire up to a hundred more officers. Ideally, the city would like to have at least 410 officers, which would amount to two officers for every 1,000 residents. Right now, there are about 309.
The additional officers would cost the city around $9 million.
The council must approve the proposal one more time before it's official.
