Consider This...Spike Dykes a Hero

Posted: Updated:

This week the Lubbock Area Foundation is honoring a true legend. Spike Dykes was named the foundation's 2013 Hero of the Year.

Dykes coached all over the state before landing at Texas Tech in 1986. He was the first coach in history to lead the Red Raiders to seven straight bowl games. He was Tech's first coach to defeat the Texas Longhorns in six different seasons and he earned three Southwest Conference and one Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year honors.

Needless to say his accomplishments, influence, and example will shine on for years to come.

Consider this:

The Lubbock Area Foundation couldn't have chosen a better man to honor. Proceeds from the benefit luncheon in his honor will be used to create an endowment that will forever grow and be used to help people in need. And that's just one more way Coach Spike Dykes' legacy will live on in Lubbock and beyond.

Congratulations from KCBD NewsChannel 11, coach. We all like Spike.
