Come Friday, shopping in Lubbock will cost you slightly more.
Retailers will begin collecting an increased sales tax. You'll recall, last November, Lubbock voters approved a three-eighths of a cent sales tax increase in exchange for lower property taxes. This means, you'll now be paying 8.25 cents per $1.
The current rate is 7.875 cents per $1. So, for example, something you buy today at $19.99 is taxed $1.57, come Friday, the tax would be $1.65.
