They're probably two of the most disturbing things a customer can imagine when it comes to restaurants, live roaches and rodent droppings. Those are just some of the violations health inspectors found at our first low performer.
We start at Rise N Shine Donuts at 1908 50th. Inspectors cited them with eight critical violations.
Live roaches were under equipment in the kitchen.

Management was not available for comment, but most of the violations were corrected while the inspector was there.
Next we head to Raider Burrito at 2102 19th street.
They were also cited for eight critical violations.
Hot foods were not at least 135 degrees.
An employee did not wash their hands when changing tasks and putting on gloves.
There was no hand wash station at the outside food area.
There were no paper towels or soap at the outside food station.
A hand wash sink was dirty.
Dirty pans were in the hand sink. An uncovered drink was in the food prep area.
Containers of food were stored in a container of potatoes.
Due to the number and the nature of the violations, the inspector notes food safety was not demonstrated.
The report shows all violations were corrected during the inspection.
Next we head to Mali's Snow at 1708 50th.
The facility recently underwent a name change. They were cited for nine critical violations.
Cut cantaloupe was above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
Employees did not wash their hands before putting on gloves.
Cut fruit mix had a foul-smell and a cloudy bubbly liquid.
A dirty soda gun, that was no longer being used, was in the container of fruit.
An unlabeled, toxic item was next to the ice maker.
An employee rinsed off utensils with water only instead of using a sanitizing solution with bleach.
There was no thermometer in a reach-in cooler.
Multiple food contact surfaces were dirty or broken.
The report states that due to the number and the nature of the violations, management did not show proper food safety knowledge.

And finally Joe's Crab Shack at 5802 W. Loop 289 was cited with nine critical violations.
