Chaps Claim Second Consecutive Shutout

Lubbock Christian University has played two Heartland Conference games and they have a pair of shutout wins, as Saturday, the Chaparrals received a pair of goals from Billy Forbes and goalkeeper Erik Mozzo stopped all five shots on goal to lead LCU to a 3-0 victory over St. Mary's University at LCU Soccer Field.

Forbes finished with five points in the game, as he played a part in all three goals. He assisted on the Chaparrals opening goal in the 18th minute, as he sent a cross into the box for Jorge Elizalde, who converted on his third goal of the season. It was Forbes' first assist on the season. Forbes scored his first marker of the game in the 31st minute with Elizalde returning the favor to Forbes with a pass to set up the goal. The goal helped LCU to a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Chaps grabbed an insurance goal in the 81st minute, as Forbes collected his 12th goal of the season and his third in a Heartland Conference game this season. Carlos Vela fed a through-pass to Forbes to lead to the goal for the 3-0 lead.

The Chaps were out-shot 20-18 in the game, but LCU had a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Rattlers goalkeeper Patrick Kasperitis stopped three of the six shots from LCU and had his record go to 1-7-0 on the season. Mozzo collected his fourth shutout of the season and his second consecutive shutout in a Heartland Conference game. LCU has not allowed a goal in two conference games this season. They hold an active shutout sequence of 180 minutes in conference games and a mark of 204:41 overall.

LCU improved to 2-0-0 in Heartland Conference action with the win and 5-3-1 overall, while StMU fell to 1-2-0 in conference and 1-8-0 overall. LCU remains home Monday to host Texas A&M International at noon.
