Last week, a Lubbock County couple was arrested for child abuse. They are accused of withholding food and water from one of their adopted children.
CPS also removed nine other adopted children from their home, and all ten of the them were special needs children. The investigation of abuse by this couple towards their other children is also ongoing.
Obviously if they are guilty of those charges, they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but they are not the only ones at fault here.
The system failed all ten of these children in a big way. How any state agency could allow ten foster children with special needs to be adopted by one couple is absurd.
I think a full investigation should be launched to find out who let this happen. For the sake of other innocent kids caught in the system, someone needs to be held accountable.
Sometimes the only advocate for these foster children is a regulatory state worker or agency, and in this case, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services failed these kids in a big way, and someone needs to start asking some serious questions.
