UT Tyler investigating campus threat, seeking man who may know more

While there are no suspects or persons of interest, they say they'd like help tracking down this man because they believe he has the information they're looking for. While there are no suspects or persons of interest, they say they'd like help tracking down this man because they believe he has the information they're looking for.

University of Texas at Tyler authorities are still investigating threatening phone calls that starting coming into campus Thursday.

Friday, school officials released a photo of the person who they say has valuable information about their investigation. However, university police will not say who the person is. They are not calling him a suspect or a person of interest. Right now, they want help locating this individual so they can speak to him.

Campus officials say the threats are keeping them busy, but students on campus didn't seem to be phased. A Patriot Alert text message notified students that university police were investigating a possible threat to campus. As students were taking care of business before the weekend, not everyone got the message

"I haven't got a text yet. I don't know when that text will come... if it will come," says UT Tyler student Jefferson Geeslin.

Jefferson says he usually gets university alerts, but he didn't know about this one. After digging through his email, he found a message from the school, but like some other students it left him with more questions.

"Am I looking for someone sneaking around? There are people that just kind of slink around and look suspicious all the time," says Jefferson.

"It was so vague, the email, that it made me think, like, ok... what kind of threats, you know? Is it a bombing or a shooting?" asks Daniel Gee, who also hadn't received an alert text message.

According to the text message, university police had nothing to substantiate an imminent threat to campus. The message goes on to say, "calls seemed to suggest a possible threat involving a narrow time frame that appears to end this weekend."

"The campus does a good job with security so I wouldn't be too worried," says Gee.

For the most part, students weren't worried.

"Not really. You're just more aware of your surroundings and what's going on," says DeMarcus Metcalf.

"It makes me think twice if I want to stay out later that usual," says Gee.

School officials say they're busy investigating the threats "which appeared to indicate the possibility of armed violence toward an individual or group of individuals."

While there are no suspects or persons of interest, they say they'd like help tracking down the man in the photograph attached to this story because they believe he has the information they're looking for.

UT Tyler says they'll have increased police presence at campus events over the weekend. That includes the Rose Festival Coronation Friday evening and homecoming events scheduled for Saturday.
