LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Charges are being dropped against a paramedic from Sundown accused of driving an ambulance while drunk.

On Monday evening, Lubbock police told us that a judge did not find enough probable cause to charge Daniel MacDonald.

Lubbock police arrested MacDonald at University Medical Center on Saturday.

He was bringing a young patient to the hospital, but before he arrived, staff received a call from Levelland EMS saying they believed MacDonald was drunk.

Lubbock police officers were at UMC when MacDonald arrived. They questioned him, determined he was under the influence of alcohol, and arrested him on the scene.

MacDonald was released from jail Sunday afternoon.

Police tell us MacDonald refused to take any tests, and now we're learning that they did not seek a warrant to draw his blood.

We are still working to get an official statement as to why.

We also spoke with the city manager of Sundown who tells us that MacDonald denies being under the influence.

MacDonald is on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
