Texas Tech junior tight end Jace Amaro has been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week after helping guide the Red Raiders to a 7-0 start to the season and to a 37-27 win at West Virginia last weekend.

Amaro (San Antonio, Texas) is one of three Red Raiders to be named the league's top offensive player of the week this season, joining freshmen quarterbacks Baker Mayfield (Sept. 2) and Davis Webb (Oct. 14). It marks the first time in Big 12 history that the Red Raiders have had three offensive players of the week through eight weeks of play.

It also marks the first time since 2009 that the Red Raiders have received three Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors in one season.

He matched a career-high with two touchdown receptions in Tech's win at West Virginia last weekend while leading the team with nine catches and 136 receiving yards. He scored the first points of the game for Tech in the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown catch and tallied the final points of the game for the Red Raiders with another 10-yard touchdown reception with 1:01 left to play in the fourth quarter.

Amaro leads the Big 12 and ranks ninth in the nation with 56 receptions. He has tallied 742 receiving yards and three touchdown catches on the year.

In addition, Amaro's performance last weekend made him just the second Red Raider since 2000 with at least eight catches in six consecutive games joining Michael Crabtree (2007 – 9 straight games).
