Jace Amaro named KCBD Raider Zone Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

There was little argument who the best player on the field was in Texas Tech's 37-27 win over West Virginia.

When you catch nine passes for 136 yards with two touchdowns, while leading your team back from a 27-16 second half deficit, the decision is practically made for you.

The Big 12 deemed it the best offensive performance of the week and at KCBD we didn't disagree. Jace Amaro was the undisputed Week 7 Player of the Week.

"When the score was 27-16, I just knew I wasn't gonna let us lose this game," Amaro said. "That's why you play the game of football. For moments like that."

Without question Amaro played his best football when it mattered most in the 2nd half Saturday. Trailing by 11, freshman quarterback Davis Webb dialed up Amaro's number on several occasions to extend crucial drives. Most notably a 3rd down catch in the 4th quarter where Amaro dragged a defender 20 yards before finally being tackled for a first down.

The exclamation point for Amaro's clutch performance was the 10-yard touchdown catch with just over a minute left in the 4th. A touchdown that proved to be the final nail in the coffin as the Red Raiders survived a scary game on the road to keep the undefeated season alive at 7-0 and 4-0 in the Big 12.

A winning streak that will surely be tested at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday with a road date in Norman, Oklahoma against the 17th ranked Sooners (6-1, 3-1).

A game the Red Raiders will certainly need a strong performance from arguably it's best player, Amaro, to win.

"It's definitely the biggest game I've been a part of here at Texas Tech," Amaro said. "Norman's a great place to play and OU's a great team. They'll always be a great team and we'll have to have a great gameplan. We'll take it like we do every week and go in there and play as hard as we can."
