LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock man is behind bars Wednesday after being charged with indecency with a child.

Police say 61-year-old David Walter Thompson inappropriately touched two of his family members over the course of two years.

However, it was not until a month ago that other family members learned about it.

Carmen Aguirre is the Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center of the South Plains and she says situations like this happen more often than we may think.

"What we do is go out and teach children about tricky people. We don't teach stranger danger. We teach them that it's not what someone looks like but it's what they ask you to do or what they ask you to keep secret," said Aguirre.

Aguirre says the center serves approximately 700 kids a year and 90-percent of those kids have been sexually abused.  Of those cases, 99-percent of the time the perpetrator is someone they know. In addition, only one out of 10 children ever report being sexually abused.

If you would like to know more about the Child Advocacy Center of the South Plains call 740-0251.

Thompson was booked into the Lubbock County Jail on Monday.

His bond is set at $100,000 dollars.
