If you have a choice of either standing or sitting at your desk, you should stand.
That's according to a new study in the ‘Archives of Internal Medicine'. It shows that sitting for long periods of time is not just bad for the back; it can also have a negative impact on your overall health.
Specifically, researchers say sitting for more than 11 hours a day, increases your risk of dying within 3 years by 40%. And, sitting for 8 hours a day increases the risk by 15%.
Coincidentally, here's something new, a high-tech solution, it is called the "stir kinetic desk". It actually senses your presence and responds to you, moving from a sitting position to a standing position with just a touch of the screen.
"The desk will actually remind you to change things up during the day," says JP Labrosse, CEO of Stir Kinetics.
Its high tech, and may be expensive, but if you're a little restless at the office, this could keep you moving, in the same spot, that is.
If you don't have the money for this high tech solution, there's another option that's a lot cheaper, walking during lunch.
