Texas Tech kicked off the 2013-14 Red Raider Basketball season with a Tip-Off Celebration at United Spirit Arena Thursday night.

Fans were introduced to head coach Tubby Smith and this year's edition of the Red Raiders, while watching teammates go head-to-head in a 3-point competition and a slam dunk contest.

"I think overall it was a good evening for us and for the fans," said Smith, who is in his first season at the helm of the Texas Tech program. "We had some fun and fans got to see what we are about."

Dusty Hannahs and Luke Adams advanced from the preliminary round to the finals in the 3-point contest, as Hannahs picked up 12 to Adams' 11. In the finals, Hannahs was near perfect as he topped Adams, 15-12 to win the title.

In the dunk contest, Robert Turner scored a 39 on an amazing dunk, only to be out-done by Jaye Crockett who pulled off his shirt before slamming home a 40 to advance to the finals. In the finals, Crockett did his signature 360 jam to top Turner, 40-30, and secure the title.

In the Red and Black Scrimmage, the Red Squad pulled away for a 66-37 victory thanks in large part to a 19-point effort from Toddrick Gotcher, who connected on five treys in the 20-minute scrimmage.

Jordan Tolbert added 12 points for the Red Squad, while Dusty Hannahs led the Black Squad with 16 points and Jamal Williams added 11.

Texas Tech will next be in action in an exhibition game with Angelo State on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena. Admission is free.

The Red Raiders kick off the 2013-14 season on Friday, Nov. 8, when Texas Tech host Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. at United Spirit Arena.
