When Tech's Away, Sports Bars Win

When the Texas Tech football team is away you can find Jeff, Amy, Riley, and Dawson Peck supporting the team at Jake's Sports Bar.

Yards don't add up to points for Texas Tech as they fall to #2 Oklahoma 28-13.

"If the game's not in town, then we just come out and watch them," says Amy Peck, Red Raider fan.

Along with the location, the menu order is always the same.

"We get queso, burgers, and the layered dip," says Peck.

For Matt McClintock, he would rather face the game with a crowd than alone.

"Just better camaraderie. There's people around, and they're all here for the same reason," says McClintock, Red Raider fan.

While the fans support the team, they also support the bar.

"We're much busier on away games than on home games," says John David Peck, bartender at Jake's Sports Bar.

Jake's Sports Bar knows that away games mean big money.

"We probably do a good $2,000 to $3,000 more," says Peck.

Leslie Danehanna, a bartender at Bleacher's Sports Cafe, says seeing the red and black on the big screen helps.

"A lot of people know when a big game comes on we're going to be showing it," says Danehanna.

While at Bleacher's, Raider fans had the opportunity to meet Pete Christy, the new sports directors at NewsChannel 11.

"We're out here for the Meet Pete Party. I'm out here getting reacquainted with the fine folks of West Texas," says Pete Christy.

Those fine folks are sending out a special invitation for the next Tech away game.

"Come out and help us support our team on the away games," says Erica Wallace, Red Raider fan.

The next Tech away game will be on October 30 when the Red Raiders meet up with Kansas State.

The June 12 summit, planned for Singapore, offers a historic chance for peace on the peninsula - but also the risk of an epic diplomatic failure that would allow the North to revive and advance its nuclear weapons program.
