Some popular painkillers, like Vicodin and Lortab, may be harder to fill if a new recommendation from the FDA is approved.
Those pills are prescribed for pain, after surgery or dental work, but they are also commonly abused.
Changing the classification of the drug will mean patients will need a new prescription for pain pills every three months, rather than six. They will also need to bring the prescription to the pharmacy...rather than just call it in.
Some doctors are concerned this will make it harder for people with genuine pain issues to get the help they need.
A final decision from the drug enforcement agency is expected by the end of the year.
