Lubbock bakery closing announced

Provided by BBU

Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) announced today that it will cease operations at its bakery located at 1950 Texas Avenue by mid-November. The bakery produces buns and currently employs 39 associates. The Company will shift production to other bakeries in the company's manufacturing network, including another facility located in Lubbock.

"This was a difficult decision because of the highly engaged team of associates at our Texas Avenue Bakery," said Bob Conners, Regional Vice President of Operations for BBU's South Central Region. "However, after careful analysis and consideration, it was apparent that the facility did not have the infrastructure and manufacturing capability to compete in the marketplace."

Human resources representatives will meet with associates to discuss severance and other benefits, as well as resources available to assist them in their transition.

"We value and respect our associates and will assist them as we can," said Conners. "We are encouraging associates to apply for open positions at our other Lubbock bakery."

The bakery on Broadway will remain open.
