LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Family and friends are mourning the death of a Wolfforth teenager.

Ryan Weitman, 17, died from injuries he suffered Tuesday evening. Investigators say Weitman was riding on the hood of a moving car in the parking lot of Legacy Play Village on the Marsha Sharp Freeway. They say the driver turned and Weitman fell off. The driver rushed him to the hospital where he later died.

Weitman attended Frenship High School's alternative education program at Reese Education Center. It's a self-paced school and Weitman's principal, Farley Reeves, says Weitman just graduated last Friday.

"He was actually going to have his graduation ceremony tomorrow as an individual. So to see he and his family cheated out of that opportunity, it's really emotional and distraught," Reeves said.

Reeves says they have extra counselors on campus for students to talk to.
