Early morning assault leads to police chase, arrest

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

One person is in custody after a police chase ended in a crash in central Lubbock.

Police responded to a burglary in progress at 530 42nd Street at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 6.

Police say they found a badly beaten victim in the alley and saw a white SUV fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.

The suspect led police on a 15 minute chase with speeds reaching 90 mph.

The chase ended at 4200 block of Avenue Q where a police officer used a controlled collision to stop the vehicle. 

The suspect, Matthew Rodriguez, 25, was taken into custody and transported to UMC with minor injuries.  

Rodriguez has since been released from UMC, arrested, and transported to the county jail. 

The officer was transported to UMC with minor injuries and has been released. 

The victim was transported to UMC with serious injuries and has been released.
