Dana Bowman is a retired Special Forces officer, doing his part to honor the hundreds of Purple Heart recipients being recognized at the Texas Tech game Saturday.
He plans to do it in style, by parachuting from a plane nearly 500 feet in the air.
But Bowman is no average thrill-seeking parachuter.
Bowman lost both his legs in a horrible accident in 1994.
He was doing a fly in with a military parachute team when he collided with a teammate going 300 miles per hour.
The impact killed his partner instantly and Bowman lost both his legs.
But that's not stopping him.
Just nine months after the accident, Bowman returned to active duty.
And today he's know all over the country as a speaker and for flying into hundreds of football games.
He said that to him, there's no better way to honor those who have sacrificed so much.
"What a way to bring that American flag in, especially for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice," Bowman said. "Our country would not have the backbone that it has right now if it hadn't been for what our veterans have done for us."
