Pine Tree ISD board votes on leadership changes

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

After an already tumultuous Fall semester, the Pine Tree ISD School Board came within a couple of votes of changing leadership Monday night.

Board President Charley Peck remains in that office by a 5-2 vote, while Trustee Cynthia Hellen will take Terre Dunn's position of vice president, also by a vote of 5-2.

The votes happened during a regularly scheduled meeting of the school board.

The attempted restructuring comes after the October 18th resignation of athletic director and head football coach Derek Fitzhenry.

The meeting was held in open session, where members discussed the health of the district.

"It takes a whole lot of people to make a district successful, I'm just one part of that," Peck said. Our superintendent has done a good job on leading us through academic improvements. Our financial health is strong. Like I said, it takes a great many people to make a district run smoothly, and we're fortunate to do that."

Peck was first elected to the board in 2007. His current term expires in 2016.
