LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested a 27-year-old man on a bigamy arrest warrant out of Fayette County early Tuesday morning after he was stopped for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Joshua Adam Williams, of Lufkin is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony bigamy charge and a Class A misdemeanor charge of revocation of probation for a 2nd DWI charge. Collectively, his bail has been set at $15,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, an investigator with the La Grange Police Department received a call from Alicia Williams who said she married Williams in Angelina County on Nov. 15, 2010. She also provided the investigator with a copy of the marriage certificate.

"I was up here and he had my address and everything and I was waiting for the [divorce] papers," Alicia Williams said. "I never received any papers or anything and so I went home for a few months and decided to look into it, and come to find out he was already married to the woman he cheated on me with."

She told the investigator that she and Williams are still married. In addition, she said that on April 4, 2013, he married a woman in Fayette County. She obtained a copy of that marriage certificate as well.

Legal expert Brandon Davis with Zeleskey Law Firm said that the law is pretty clear.

"I think the policy of the United States is to prohibit those from having multiple spouses," Davis said. "I think the policy of the United States is to just have a man and woman in union and that's what they legally recognize."

Alicia WIlliams said that she has already received harassment from ex-family members, but did this so justice could be served.

"I guess time in jail to make him realize what he did."

When the La Grange PD detective interviewed Williams by phone, the man allegedly admitted to that he was not divorced from his first wife and that he had married the second woman, knowing full well that he wasn't divorced.

Alicia also has a warning for anyone out there.

"You need to try to know the person you marry," Williams said. "Try to be with him more than just a year and then marry him."
