Lubbock hit the freezing mark Tuesday morning, but the wind chill consistently ran in the 20 to 25 degree range for a few hours before sunrise and a couple of hours after sunrise. Tuesday afternoon will bring decreasing wind speeds and increasing sunshine. Highs will be in the 40s.
Lubbock-area temperatures are likely to fall to near freezing by mid evening and continue to fall well into Wednesday morning. Outside it may not feel as cold because of the lack of wind, but this will be the coldest night so far this season. Low temperatures will be in the teens and twenties.
Heaters will be a necessity tonight and tomorrow morning with a hard freeze across the viewing area. If you have a sprinkler system, you should ensure it is in standby or turned off. If you have not already done so, today would be a good time to winterize outdoor faucets. Make sure pets are provided for.
