Woman trapped in burning vehicle dies in Floyd County rollover

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

One person was killed and another was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a rollover accident on US 70 near CR 162.

DPS troopers say 21-year-old Clinton James Smith was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer southeast on US 70 around 5:30 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the center median just south of CR 162.

The vehicle struck a drainage culvert, rolled multiple times, and caught fire after the crash.

The driver, Smith, and front seat passenger, 20-year-old Terrance Jacolby Wright were both ejected. The rear passenger, 19-year-old Viola Elena Saucedo, was trapped when the vehicle caught fire and died from injuries at the scene.

Smith was treated for serious injuries. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Wright was treated and released from Lockney hospital. He was also not wearing a seat belt.

The investigation is still ongoing.
