Food for Thought: 11.14

Live and dead cockroaches are just one of the many violations on the plate in this week's Food for Thought.

KCBD NewsChannel 11's Christy Hartin serves up this week's report.

We begin at Little Panda at 7412 University.

That's where health inspectors found seven critical violations.

  • Several live and dead roaches were found near a water heater. The report shows pest control was called during the inspection.
  • There was no soap or paper towels at a hand sink.
  • An employee was not wearing gloves when using a bowl to scoop rice out of a cooker.
  • An uncovered drink was in the kitchen.
  • A toxic item was not labeled.
  • Employees were not sanitizing dishes or tables after cleaning them.
  • Soda nozzles were heavily soiled and the inside of the ice machine was dirty.

Management tells us everything was corrected and they passed their re-inspection.

The report shows that as well.

Our next low performer is Burrito Tower 2 at 4701 I-27.

They were also cited with seven critical violations.

  • Potatoes were not 41 degrees or below.
  • Ready to eat eggs, beef and rice were not at least 135 degrees.
  • An employee did not wash their hands before putting on gloves.
  • An employee handled tortillas with their bare hands.
  • Raw bacon and raw fish were stored above cooked foods.
  • Several bottles with chemicals inside were not labeled.

The report shows that due to the number and the nature of the violations management did not demonstrate food safety knowledge.

The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.

Now to the good news.
