Obesity Results in Higher Risk of Breast Cancer

Weight may play a role not only in the development of breast cancer but in survival, too. After reviewing about 2,000 women with early stage breast cancer, a study presented on Wednesday at the Fox Chase Cancer Center found obese women were more likely to have their disease spread and become fatal compared to women of normal or even slightly above normal weight.

The findings confirm earlier studies that have shown being overweight increases the risk of developing breast cancer. Researchers say this provides one more reason for physicians to intervene with weight control.
