Ballesteros found guilty of 2012 murder

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Steve Ballesteros was found guilty of the 2012 murder of Maria Perez.

Steve Ballesteros took the stand Friday morning testifying his side of the relationship with Maria Perez and her death.

He emotionally told the court that when he strangled Perez it was all "a haze."

Ballesteros said multiple times that he didn't remember strangling Perez and described his actions as being a blind rage.

He told the jury he snapped and the next thing he remembered was seeing Perez on her back with her eyes closed.

His testimony lasted for an hour and a half.

The sentencing phase of the trial will either begin Friday afternoon or Monday morning.
